It was a
hot day in Las Vegas that Saturday morning as I was leaving town for
Rachel, NV and Area 51. I was completely excited and a little
nervous because I was going alone. My wife, who was at home in
Oregon, knew I was going so there was some relief knowing that if I
get arrested, she will know where I am (sort of).
But still, what I was after was just to find the road to truth and I
didn’t care if I pissed off some security guard who thinks they can
kill me at will with permission. As I later found out, the security
really was put there as a scare-tactic. Nothing more. And it did not
scare me.
The drive from Vegas to Rachel is absolutely gorgeous. As you headed
north, there is this huge mountain range that is completely
connected on the left side as you drive the whole way. It’s like you
are driving on the side of a huge gate that says, “Stay Out!” The
desert and conditions are not for a day hiker because by the time
you did reach the ridge of the mountain, you are drained and
exhausted on foot. The only way to get to that mountain and over it
is by 4x4. A car simply will not be able to get near or around that
dry mountain range.
Honestly, as you drive up the highway, you get this feeling of
mystery and desertion as if the entire area is trying to be
populated as fast as possible but something stops the building of
homes or golf courses. Therefore everything appears as if it’s
taking forever to grow.
Driving on the highway, it seems no one is paying attention as I
passed by two deadly car accidents on my way up, but there were only
a few cop cars at the scene and no ambulance yet as if something is
allowing the injured to die out there. You may think I am crazy, but
it appeared as if I was driving in a place where robots were going
about their business trying to make it appear there are real people
out there doing real things.
To be continued…
And here is my experience when I rented a car and drove to Rachel, NV and Area-51. More Pics and Info to come.
